About

👋

Hi, I’m Mark. I live in a town that I love on the south coast of England, Poole.

I’m married to Kate and dad to Abby and Alice.

I realised that a lot of what I share today is no different to how we behaved when we were younger.

The friends we make, the risks we take and the strength we find from putting ourselves and our work out there.

I am fortunate enough to have spent 10+ years learning what it takes to build a community that welcomes people from all over the world. I want to help other people do that too.

In order to talk to you about community, I had to make one myself.

My values are centred on interdependence, creativity, support, experimentation and co-learning.

When you know what you stand for, it’s easier for you work to represent what you believe in.

My approach to building my own personal brand and then community was to choose myself.

Most of our lives, we will never be picked. This is why you have to choose yourself. To present on the stage, I made a conference. To be seen by others, I started a newsletter. To be a better host, I created regular in-person events. Audience building does not mean you have be at the whim of an algorithm. Social media helps with awareness, but relationships are down to you.

In our stream of posts, ads and endless feeds, what we want isn’t more of the same, it has always to be with the right people.

While search tools are part of our lives, the greatest pursuit may be to find each other.
